David Roe Bishop was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 14, 1957. He picked up the thrill of snow skiing on the shoulders of a Norwegian family friend and continued the sport until he fractured the tibial plateau near his left knee in 2008 in Breckenridge, Colorado. Dr. Bishop grew up in Irving, Texas from age 5 and played the piano for the New Hope Singers at Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving, Texas. He funded his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas mowing lawns, hauling hay, and construction work. Dr. Bishop received his doctorate of dental surgery from the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio Dental School in 1983, ranked the number one dental school in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.
Dr. Bishop worked summers building houses with his uncle in Missouri and used these skills to design and build from the ground up his dental office on Greenville Avenue in Allen, Texas along with his father. “I come from a long line of carpenters”, said Dr. Bishop. Over the years, the little office grew with an add on here and an expansion there, as did the city of Allen and the patient base. The Dentist of Allen’s new 6,500-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility is located on the corner of Exchange Parkway and Highway 75. Dr. Bishop has continued to develop the practice to introduce newly educated as well as seasoned dental skills to provide patient care mastered from time tested to new innovative approaches best suited to the patient’s needs. The Dentist of Allen has evolved into one of the premier cosmetic and family practices in the area. Dr. Bishop’s continuing education fine tunes the finesse required to deliver the best dental care year after year. You can be assured that the Dentist of Allen is equipped, experienced, and trained for all your dental needs.
After graduating from dental school, Dr. Bishop and his wife, Bonnie moved to Allen, when the population was 9,000. Their children, Olivia and Weston, were born and raised in Allen. Bonnie and Dr. Bishop enjoyed the growth of both their children and their town. Dr. Bishop served 6 years on the city council, when the population was around 30,000, and actively participated in Allen’s early development. He participated as a facilitator with the capital improvement projects in Allen. Dr. Bishop still enjoys playing improvisational piano in a praise band at Allen Heights Baptist Church, where he and his family have been members since 1983.
Dr. Bishop has expanded his interests with training in woodworking with a focus on hand tools and machinery building one of kind furniture. His woodworking skills can be viewed in the reception area of the new facility as he built the timber frame out of rough cut cypress. Each bent has 46 pegs and all woodwork including planning was hand done as opposed to machinery prepared. No metal is used anywhere on the timber frame. It is truly a work of art.
Dr. Bishop enjoys fly fishing, bicycle riding, and spending time with his family. He looks forward to visits from his children. Olivia lives in the state of Tennessee, while Weston is living in Austin, Texas.
Dr. Bishop enjoys dentistry because of the hand work, but it is the wonderful people that attract him the most. He celebrates the magnificent team that he works with every day and the beautiful smiles of every patient. Dr. Bishop is really into smiles.
